The sparkling-new locomotive above is a model of D&RGW #50, lettered for George Berg's Red River Railroad. It's sound system is really impressive.[George Berg photo.]

The lead story in the latest issue of 7+ Narrow Gauger gives some new information on Russia[n] iron, the preferred boilder jacket material for locomotives around 1870 to 1880. If you'd like to see a portion of this material, click: From the Latest Issue: Russia. Richard Ulin continues his series on "Building the Mason Bogie" in that issue, with Chapter 11. And the Old Curmudgeon serves up Part 2 of "Planning a Tracksite." Vol. 7, No. 4 also has plans for building a parking brake for your locomotive tender, as built by Al VonRueden and submitted by Doug Wilkinson.

New features on The 7+ Narrow Gauger Homepage include a merchandise section where you can buy bound copies of early issues or a 7+ Narrow Gauger Tee Shirt. There's a link on the Contents page.
Vol. 7, No.4, has been mailed. Vol.8, No. 1, is on the layout table and will go to the printer as soon as possible.

Interested? Several people have formed a working group to investigate the feasibility of a model of a Baldwin 8-18c, a narrow gauge 4-4-0. The model could be completed as a replica of the Eureka orSonoma. The 8-18c was only very slightly larger than the 8-16c, (e.g. 11" x 16 cylinders vs 12" x16" cylinders). Therefore, the same model could be finished to represent a D&RG locomotive of the Ptarmigan class, since the difference in size would not be noticeable.
If you might be interested in building one of these locomotives, please e-mail the editor.
